(More customer reviews)I am an above knee amputee who wears the prosthesis for the great majority of my day with ease. I am highly physically active despite the severity of my disability. At my residence I use a wheelchair to get around after taking the prosthesis off for the day. As such, I'm not really using crutches all that much, although I always have a pair at home and pair in my vehicle for emergency needs in case of prosthesis problems.
That being said, I do have to use crutches from time to time, esp. when traveling. I don't take my wheelchair when traveling because I am able to successfully move around on crutches and still do the things I need to do - using a wheelchair just makes it easier, but it would be a complete pain to deal with at an airport. Standard sized crutches can be cumbersome to carry.
When I found these crutches I was so excited since they compress down to 27" and have a carrying bag for ease of transport. They take a little getting used to compared to traditional crutches, but it's a very, very small learning curve and I adjusted quickly. I suggest using them around your home first to become comfortable with adjusting them and the slightly different feel. I'm not sure I'd want to use these as everyday crutches if I needed to use them daily, but as a spare set or a set for travel I think they are great. There are standard crutches out there that fold in half, but are still as bulky to carry. These are lightweight and are as compact as crutches can be. While no where even close to the weight limit, I am a solid woman and these worked flawlessly for me - at no point have I felt these were going to bend beneath me.
Again, not likely a product for the daily crutch user, but for occasional needs like mine (esp. the travel aspect) this is a great product that should last for years and years if used with care.
