(More customer reviews)Would appear that Medline bought the rights to take up where "The Golden etriever" left off. The latter was, without question, the absolute best grabber/reacher available. I was sorely disappointed to learn that The Golden Retriever is no longer available. I was relieved to find the Platinum Reacher which, except for a difference in color and with one glaring fault, is identical in style down to the last detail--almost--of The Golden Retriever. The fault? In the stiff compression spring that has been substituted used in place of the just-right compression spring action of the original. I ordered two of the 31" Platinum Reachers from Medline and, except for the stiff spring, was very impressed with overall design and construction. Fortunately, I found that I could take apart the squeeze handle assembly and replace the stiff compression spring with the nearest equivalent I could find as used in the original Golden Retriever. I had gone to TrueValue Hardware, HomeDepot, and Lowes without finding a suitable spring. Thankfully, I found what I was looking for at Westlake Hardware.
Had I not been able to replace the compression springs in the two reachers that I'd ordered, I would have counted my purchases as failed. Cost me only $2.69 to fix the problem. Surely Medline will address as well at some point. The stiff spring action of the reacher as currently delivered is, as far as I am concerned, unacceptable. This is a one-star item as delivered, would be a 5-star with a substantially less resistive compression spring.
